English language challenges

It has been difficult for me to study English online, I think one of the main reasons for this is because it seems to me that the best way to learn English is through conversation and listening, which is difficult to do it by Zoom, either because of connection problems or because of the discomfort of interactions through the cameras. In other way, there are many activities that were very useful, I especially liked the one to comment on photographs and their relationships with each other. Regarding blogs I think they are very good for several reasons. First of all, it forces you to write about certain issues in English, but maintaining a writing style, since these blogs are registered within a personal platform that has to have some identity. It is also good to be able to read partners blogs that treats the same topics, since this way we can compare different ways of expressing ourselves in English but from the same base. Finally, it seems to me that it is good to encourage creati...

Changes to my study program

To start I think that one of the fundamental changes that I would make in the career that I study, film and television would be to remove the entire television area from the career (making all the courses that have some relation with this optative). Leaving the career only as a degree in film. Starting from this, the degree would change faculty, I think it would be appropriate for it to be taught in the arts faculty and not in the communications institute. On this relationship between communication and cinema, Raul Ruiz is very clear "cinema is the antipodes of communication." Regarding the career, one of the changes he would make would be to advance the documentary film work as much as possible and extend it. I think that working on the documentary from the beginning of the degree serves a lot to develop habits and practices, such as being constantly attentive to the environment to record any situation that occurs. In addition to the fact that in countries like Chile where...

Time travel to the future

In the first place, if I could choose, I would prefer not to travel to the future in any case, I think that knowing the future, regardless of whether it is a very distant or near future, would generate in me a lot of sadness and anxiety. Mainly because I would lose my surprise and a little interest in life and its events, in addition to the fact that nothing I do would allow me to change what is going to happen would cause me stress. Another thing for which I would not travel to the future would be because of climate change and global warming, I think that a trip to a bit more distant future would be too bleak for a human heart. But considering that I have to choose a time and place to travel, I think I would travel 100 years in the future, to the year 2121. 100 years in the future to see how the city in which I live, Santiago, has changed. I would walk around the neighborhood I live in, try to interact with people to see how the ways of speaking have changed, and even to see if ...

A film making style that I think is interesting

Imagen
I like many filmmakers with very diverse styles, if I could get to make films I would like to use some of their resources and their various methods and operations. But before this, I think it is important to talk about the productive context of cinema. Fellini used to say “When the money runs out the film will be finished” and Deleuze adds to this “Money is the virtual image of the cinematographic image”. Making films is very expensive, everything is expensive, from the equipment, the hourly salary of each member to the post-production and distribution of the films. I believe in looking for ways to decrease, produce less and spend less, in all areas. So I think that filmmaking has to have these considerations, it seems to me that you have to find ways to produce them as cheaply as possible. Now in terms of how I would like films made by me to be, I think that a great reference is Raul Ruiz, in particular his film “Tres tristes tigres”. In this there are two things that I especial...

Spinetta

Imagen
I'm going to talk a little about Luis Alberto Spinetta. Luis was an Argentine musician, he was born in 1950 and passed away in 2012. I want to talk about him because he is one of the artists that is most important to me. I have listened to his music for several years. Like most of the fans, I started listening to two of his youth groups "Almendra" and "Pescado Rabioso", and after some time I introduce myself to his solo albums and his last groups, "Spinetta Jade" and "Spinetta y los socios del desierto". His discography is huge, more than thirty studio albums, and even after his death some albums that he had prepared have come out. The versatility and variety of his work is one of the things that the people who listen him appreciate most, from psychedelic rock records like “Pescado 2”, through jazz in english like “Only love can sustain”, until reaching the peaks that I can not put in any category like the "Peluson of milk" and th...

The best concert ever

Imagen
I haven't been to many concerts, but I had the luck to go to one that was incredible.  This concert was in the year 2017, in a pub in Bellavista called "La Juguera". I went there with my brother to see a group called "Lendakaris Muertos". They are a basque punk rock group from Pamplona, their songs are short and furious, usually ironic, and almost all of them deal with political issues. The concert was a friday at dawn, very late. It was in august and it was raining all night. We arrive just when the opening band was finishing their presentation. The public at punk rock concerts perform a practice known as "mosh": everyone pushes and hits everyone without regard. But in this concert I felt a different attitude, a certain brotherhood in the mosh. At one point during the concert I fell in the middle of the people, I thought they were going to crush me but they got me up immediately and continued with their pushing and hiting. In addition to this, the pla...

A Country I would like to visit

There are a lot of countries that I would like to visit, many of them were already said by my classmates (France, Japan, Bolivia) so I chose one new. I would like to go to Sweden, in particular to an island called Farö. On this island Ingmar Bergman recorded several of his movies (in my opinion his best movies), like “Persona” or “Hour of the wolf”. I learned about this island thanks to a documentary by Bergman himself, called “Fårö Document”. In the movie we can learn about the population of the island, their lives, also we can see some of the beautiful landscapes that make Farö so incredible.  In this place Bergman lived for a long time and he even died there. The whole island is impregnated with the spirit of Bergman. I would like to go there for a few months, in summer, just to see what it's like, to go to the places where he recorded some of his mythical scenes (the sequence shot on the shore of the beach of “Persona” for example), and to try to understand why he love...
